Course Requirements
This course is intended for advanced students who are very **fortable with the English they know, but want to improve their abilities further. It is specifically prepared for students who can express themselves in most basic situations and can understand simple conversational English but want to speak more clearly about **plicated topics. A strong knowledge of English vocabulary and an ability to speak at a normal speed about every day topics is a requirement for this course.
Purpose of the Course
This class will teach you to express your ideas the way native English speakers would; you will practice correctly stating opinions in social contexts, disagreeing with people, talking about the past, the present and about things that might happen but probably won’t. You will also discuss current events and news and be**e better able to talk about yourself. Although a solid knowledge of the standard vocabulary taught in Chinese schools is necessary, this course will reinforce the more difficult words you already know and expose you to advanced vocabulary related to the discussion topics, allowing you the opportunity to expand what you already know.
Workload for students
The amount of work required for each class depends on your ability and your dedication, but studying the handouts before each lesson is necessary to get the most out of this course. 20-30 minutes of outside study of the materials is re**mended before each class. This is because the handouts usually contain words that you probably learned in school (which you should look up again if you have forgotten them) and new words with definitions in English. Your ability to use these words during the discussion will be the best way to take advantage of the course. Further along in the course the vocabulary lists will sometimes be replaced by short articles in English describing the topic of the discussion, and reading these articles will form the basis for that day’s class. These advanced courses are naturally more difficult, but with a little work you will be able to truly impress English speakers with your abilities and you will soon sound more and more like a native speaker yourself!
